A soft tissue support scaffold designed to achieve longer, more enduring results by promoting rapid tissue ingrowth and a stronger repair.
GalaFLEX surgical scaffold is the only biologically derived scaffold for plastic and reconstructive surgery that is constructed from poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB), extruded into monofilament fibers and knitted into a strong, bioresorbable scaffold.
Galatea scaffolds offer a unique combination of properties that are optimal for soft tissue reinforcement in plastic and reconstructive surgery:

Biologically Derived
Produced by a safe biological fermentation process, standard in pharmaceutical production

Monofilament
Knitted with an open-pore designed to minimize risk of infection and to encourage a healing response[7,8,15,18,36]

Strong
Provides a lattice for new tissue ingrowth and regeneration with the resulting tissue 3-5x stronger than native tissue [8,36]

Bioresorbable
Naturally broken down to CO2 and H2O primarily through the process of hydrolysis, with full bioresorption by 18-24 months [7]

Indications for Use
Galatea scaffolds are indicated for use as a bioresorbable scaffold for soft tissue support and to repair, elevate and reinforce deficiencies where weakness or voids exist that require the addition of material to obtain the desired surgical outcome. This includes reinforcement of soft tissue in plastic and reconstructive surgery, and general soft tissue reconstruction. Galatea scaffold is also indicated for the repair of fascial defects that require the addition of a reinforcing or bridging material to obtain the desired surgical result.
